FARMERS

OF SWEET POTATOES

How do sweet potatoes grow?

Cilembu sweet potatoes — famous for their honey-like sweetness — are a bit picky when it comes to their ideal environment. They thrive in hot, humid tropical climates with just the right balance: rainfall between 750–1500 mm per year, temperatures between 21–27°C, and air humidity around 60–80%. These roots love sunshine too — ideally 11 to 12 hours a day — and prefer lowland areas up to 500 meters above sea level. For soil, they grow best in rich types like andosol, sandy clay loam, or alluvial — anything less, and their growth slows, their carbs drop, and their flavor just isn’t the same.

We grow our Japanese sweet potatoes in the same environment — right here on our land in Indonesia. Though originally from Japan, they’ve adapted beautifully to our tropical conditions, developing a creamy texture and gentle sweetness that makes them a customer favorite. Both varieties grow side by side, nurtured with care and harvested at peak ripeness — because great flavor starts with great farming.

Supply Chain

At Nuhun, every sweet potato has a story — and it starts in the soil. We manage the full journey from planting to delivery with care, consistency, and pride. All of our sweet potatoes are grown on our own farms or sourced from trusted, local growers who share our values.

Once harvested, the produce is processed and packed at our facility in Bandung — handled hygienically and quickly to preserve its natural flavor and texture. We work with experienced logistics partners to ensure smooth, timely delivery, whether it’s heading to local markets or export destinations. From raw roots to baked and crisped products, we’re built for scale, freshness, and flexibility.

Who We Serve

We supply premium and mid-tier supermarkets, health food stores, and distributors who care about traceability, freshness, and real flavor. Our products arrive retail-ready, with clean labeling and consistent sizing for easy display.

We also work closely with restaurants, cafés, and foodservice providers looking for clean, natural ingredients — whether it’s baked sweet potatoes, crisps, or raw varieties for their kitchens. For wholesale buyers and specialty importers, we offer tailored solutions in volume, format, and packing — ready for both local and international markets.

What Sets Us Apart

Nuhun is rooted in full-chain control. We grow, process, and distribute our sweet potatoes ourselves — ensuring reliable quality, stable pricing, and transparency at every step. Our approach blends sustainable farming with data-driven operations to meet demand without excess waste.

But we’re not doing it alone — and we don’t want to.

A Network of Farmers, Growing Together

We know that many small farmers grow incredible sweet potatoes — but don’t always have access to stable buyers, fair prices, or reliable distribution. That’s where Nuhun comes in. We’re building a farmer-first ecosystem where growers can focus on what they do best — and we handle the rest.

If you’re a farmer looking for a better way to sell your harvest, let’s work together. We’re open to partnerships, shared success, and growing this movement — one root at a time.

Are sweet potatoes healthy?

Sweet potatoes are very healthy! They contain no fat and consist of 80% water. Sweet potatoes contain less than a quarter of the carbohydrates of rice, for example.

Sweet potatoes are full of important nutrients. They contain fewer calories and carbohydrates and more fibre than regular potatoes. They also contain a lot of vitamins B and C and minerals, including iron, selenium and calcium. In addition, sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant that is converted into vitamin A in your body.

Sweet potatoes and diabetics

The name sweet potato is actually a little misleading. Sweet potatoes fit perfectly into the diet of people with diabetes. Sweet potatoes have a low glycemic index (63 to 66), which means that the nutrients are slowly absorbed by the body. The complex carbohydrates supply the body with energy for a long time, so that the insulin level does not rise quickly.
